The mother of the bride is essentially the second most important person other than the bride & the groom during the entire wedding. The role and presence of the bride’s mother is even more imperative if she is the host. You are the manager with a slew of responsibilities who will be contacted for all the tidbits before, during and after the “I DOs”.
Just for making it easier for all the mother of the brides, we are listing a few most indispensable operations that a mother has to carry out single handedly.
GETTING TO KNOW THE GROOM’S PARENTS
The point is to have a meet and greet with the groom’s parents so you may know them a little and may not appear as complete strangers on the wedding day. Take a lead and arrange an informal chit chat session with your son in law’s parents. It may necessarily be a lavish dinner or cocktails or even a meeting over the coffee table would suffice.
GO SHOPPING WITH THE BRIDE
This can be termed as one of the most emotional moments from the entire wedding festivities. Your baby girl for whom you have shopped all your life is finally heading out to select her own wedding dress. The mother of the bride dresses her in tulle, satin, silks or whatever she chooses to wear. The mom has to be one of the first to see her trying out all the various options and give a final thumbs-up.
SUPPORT THE BRIDE’S DECISIONS
Unless she has an as unreasonable wish as getting married under water and wishes to get her guests listed for scuba-diving, she should be encouraged in all the decisions she makes. Since it her big day, everything should be in accordance with her liking and choices. Try to accommodate and argue less over petty issues that can be ignored easily.
CONVERSE WITH THE GROOM’S MOM
It is advisable to communicate your selection of the dress with the groom’s mom. Just to avoid a fashion disaster on the wedding day and watch both the moms walking down the aisle in silver belts, black wedges, a magenta lacy gown. Terrible, no! Either the mother of the bride dresses tea length or prefers a floral skirt, it is appreciable to come to common grounds and sport the looks like a pro.
ASSIST THE BRIDAL SHOWER PREPS
Although the bridal shower is being organized by any of the relatives or one of the bride’s friends, but the bride’s mother can always chip in her services in décor, giving out invites, food, arranging the cake or matching dresses.
LEND A HELPING HAND WITH THE VENDORS
The bride’s mom can always lend a helping hand when it comes to deal with all the vendors the bride is in communication with for the wedding preps. Be it the baker, the wedding give away maker, the dress designer, the venue booking and decorations. Having someone who is reliable and understands her choices well will prove to be a big relief.
